Area Light IESNA Beam Distribution (Light Output / Beam Angle / Beam Pattern)
It's understandable that you are unaware the different options for area lights that are available, and importantly, what each one is used for. It can be hard if you are not accustomed to seeing roman numerals for the beam type (see "spoken as" in the table below) see our simple interpretation guide below.
Beam Angles
Beam Type | "Spoken as" | Beam Information | Beam Application |
Type I | Type 1 | Narrow light distribution, best suited for walkways | Narrow sidewals & paths |
Type II | Type 2 | slightly wider than Type I beam, 'oval' light spread | Wider walkways and narrow roadways |
Type III | Type 3 | Medium light distribution, wider light spread than length | Roadways & general parking lot areas |
Type IV | Type 4 | Wide light distribution for install at perimeters | Wide roads & wall-mount area lighting |
Type V | Type 5 | Circular light distribution, equal light spread in all directions | Open area, intersections or squares |
Type Vs | Type 5 (Square) | Square light distribution of light | Parking lots & open areas |
