International Dark Sky Alliance
The dark sky alliance operate by 5 lighting principles for lighting outdoor responsibly:
- Useful - Every light must have a clearly defined purpose & consider the impact it will have including wildlife an habitats
- Targeted - Direct light to only where it is needed. Use Shielding/cutoff fixture (see our article for more)
- Low Level - Lights should only be as bright as is necessary
- Controlled - Use light only when it's needed by using controls such as time clock or sensor)
- Warmer White Color - limit short wavelength blue light
